It’s Friday and the last day of teaching and serving at the school. There are many emotions among the team as we begin to think about leaving our work here and heading home. The Lord has richly blessed us with many opportunities to share the Word and develop new friendships with our Filipino brothers and sisters. The teachers have invited us to join them during their morning devotions and even asked us to lead them for two days this week! They have made a point to include us in all of their daily routines and we are so thankful that the Lord has opened the door.
The children have written many letters to our children at CASM and are eager to be pen pals with their new friends in Arizona. Their desire to learn academically and spiritually is inspiring. On Wednesday, during story time, I gave the three fourth grade classes a choice of what they would like me to read. Each class of 15-16 students chose the booklet on the gospel! Their excitement and undivided attention to hear the gospel brought such joy to my heart and another confirmation about where my life’s work should be. There are many other moments like this from each our team that are best shared by them….so be sure to take some time to listen to how God has worked in their life while here in the Philippines.
More and more, we are realizing the great need for true believers of Christ to reach out to the world, serve, teach and live out the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I write this post, I’m reminded of Romans 10:14-15: How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”.
We know the work of a missionary is not done because we are at home, it continues wherever the Lord has us. We ask for your prayers today as we finish our work and say our goodbyes to students and staff. We ask for your prayers for safe travels home to Phoenix. We ask for your prayers that we faithfully continue to do the work that the Lord has called us to do. Most of all, we ask that you pray for the people of the Philippines and the seeds of faith, hope and love in Christ’s name that we been able to sprinkle throughout Manila.
Here are a few more pictures that capture the past couple of days….of the children, a medical mission team from a church in Texas that stopped by the school, and fun moments with the team. More pictures and video clips to come!
