How do you know when someone needs encouragement?
Simple….. They’re breathing.
How often have we walked past someone who needed encouragement but we’re so preoccupied or self-focused that you missed them? It’s not that we didn’t see them or hear them or read something they shared in a social media post. BUT, we let other distractions enter and we missed the opportunity. Excuses come easily:
“I don’t want to bother them”
” I’ll send a text/email when I get home”
“I don’t know what to say?”
The greatest moments of encouragement often don’t need words but almost always need your presence.
I’ve just returned from spending a few days with my younger sister, Lisa, hoping to encourage her through a tough time. The best moments have been just being there for her…in her presence. The look we can give each other that speaks an entire conversation…the laughter over the same silly moments…the quiet, introspective times to share our hearts. But mostly…just being present and listening. Special moments that become special new memories and a great reminder of what God wants from me….time to just sit with Him for a while….my attention, my presence.
Be still, and know that I am God! Psalm 46:10
My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. Psalm 62:5-6
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
